MCD Election Result 2022 Update: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ended the BJP’s 15-year rule over the prestigious civic body by winning 134 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections on Wednesday (December 7). In the elections held in 250 wards of MCD, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 104 seats, while the Congress got only nine seats. Buoyed by the victory in the MCD elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal vowed to improve civic amenities and sought the “blessings” of the Center and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the same.
In this election result, the Aam Aadmi Party was expected to get huge support from the voters of the Muslim-majority constituencies, although the party did not get the expected public support in Muslim-majority areas. The Aam Aadmi Party could win only 8 wards out of 23 wards in 6 Muslim majority assemblies.
- Aam Aadmi Party won 2 out of 3 wards of Ballimaran and BJP won one.
- Aam Aadmi Party had to face defeat in all five wards of Mustafabad assembly.
- Aam Aadmi Party had to face defeat in all 4 wards of Seelampur assembly.
- AAP lost in 4 out of 5 wards of Okhla assembly, it won only 1 seat.
- Aam Aadmi Party won all the 3 wards of Matia Mahal assembly.
- On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has won all the 3 wards of Chandni Chowk assembly.
What did Kejriwal say after the result
While addressing the party workers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the civic body will get rid of ‘corruption and bribery’. Kejriwal said, “We all have to improve the condition of Delhi and I need everyone’s cooperation including BJP and Congress.
